Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green was arrested on
assault charges on Sunday in his home state of Michigan for allegedly hitting
Michigan State college football player Jermaine Edmondson during an incident in
an East Lansing restaurant.
The forward was released on $200 bail and his arraignment is
scheduled for July 20 after being arrested for "simple assault"
following the altercation at Conrad's Grill. He could face up to 93 days in
jail and a $500 fine if he is convicted.
According to a statement from the Michigan State cornerback,
obtained by ESPN, it was not the first time the two athletes had
crossed paths during the weekend and Edmondson claims he was 'choked' by some
of Green's entourage the night before the arrest.
His statement to East Lansing Police Department read: "I
was talking to one of my teammates when Draymond bumped into me and I said,
'Hey bro can you at least say excuse me?'
"I asked who he was to think that it's okay to bump into
somebody without saying excuse me. he then said, 'I pay for n----- like you
scholarships.' Then I started to say you have me messed up before I was choked
out by two guys who were with him."
He went on to say that he, his friends and girlfriend went to
Conrad's - having already been to Rick's - to celebrate his birthday, when he
approached the Warriors man to say "last night wasn't cool."
"As
he responded to me, he began to poke me on my shoulder and I tell him that he
doesn't need to put his hands on me, we can just talk," Edmond said.
"As I started to talk again, boom, I'm punched in the jaw, in front of all
my friends and peers."
The report said that Green was "sorry for slapping the
subject and wanted to speak with him to make things right."
